My niece’s school, Bellevue Santa Fe in Avila Beach, put on an epic showing of Peter Pan Jr. last Saturday evening at the Clark Center in Arroyo Grande. These kids are incredibly talented. Here’s a few of the highlights from the Peter Pan Jr. Performance!
Blake Andrews founded SLOtography in 2008 and now works alongside photographer James Lester, Stephen Heraldo, and videographer Robin Ayers. Together, they bring more than 10 years of experience (and serious good vibes) to weddings and events throughout San Luis Obispo and the Central Coast.
I’ve seen a lot of proposals. A lot. So many, it’s easy to take for granted just how rare…and fleeting an experience it is. For some, they’ll see only one. And we’ve seen them countless times in movies…and we feel…(fill in the blank).
This post is just an intro to Mason+Hannah’s proposal…and maybe a little food for thought…’cause if you’re going to propose, think about calling a photographer ;). At the very least you’ll have some support and a big high-five waiting for you once you pass that ring off. Riiiight before your 3 sisters and parents come to celebrate alongside you…surprise!

This is just a five minute snippet atop a little Volcano in my backyard, which is now grazed by all kinds of animals that leave behind some “droppings,” dropping that you wouldn’t wanna step in (not in Rikki’s incredible slippers anyway)….> Rewind: I enter the day, on the third floor of the amazing Madonna Inn Hotel, and I walk into the Austrian Suite...a site I’ve seen many time before. There, Rikki, our bride, is providing a makeup tutorial. Her captive audience includes a friend and two nieces (ages: 2 and 5). I’m intrigued.
On the other end of the suite: two of Rikki’s crew are finishing knitting a sweater for Alex (our groom). They explain that while knitting is normally therapeutic, knitting with a timeline is quite the opposite effect. I do think the day was designed/intended to be as carefree as possible...but, as is often the case, the universe does not approve of an uneventful wedding day. It wants brevity. And as we know all to well, what the universe wants...
And that’s a wedding. It’s whimsy and expected unexpectedness. And, it’s a wonderful thing...to have people “show up” for us. And while a Wedding Day is just one day, it is an opportunity to celebrate with the people who, time-and-time again, show up for us. And because of that, (because of them), we have the opportunity grow into the wonderful-fabulous people (and couples) that we are. And that’s it. That’s my take, on a wedding, after having the opportunity to grow into the wedding photographer (and human) that I am.
This year marks the 18th year (I think) of this living dream, that I call “SLOtography.” I’m so grateful to continue doing this: sharing & celebrating love and families in the form of Weddings & Portraits.
We’ll see how long it’ll last before I “wake-up”…And that, was Rikki & Alex. And a little long-winded was from me which I know barely anyone is here for…but if you are, thanks.
