Blake Andrews founded SLOtography in 2008 and now works alongside photographer James Lester and videographer Robin Ayers. Together, they bring more than 30 years of experience (and serious good vibes) to weddings and events throughout San Luis Obispo and the Central Coast.
I should start with this disclaimer: this post is most certainly about Kiera & Michael, two beautiful, kind & hilarious newlyweds that tied the knot at La Cuesta Ranch. Their wedding day was a family affair, and it was perfect in every way.
Now, as I further prepare you for this imminent tangent, know that the Todd family is most certainly big fans of the man behind what we now know as La Cuesta Ranch (they built that little adorable bridal shed that sits on the property a stone`s throw from the historic barn). I’ve now known Gabriel for over a decade, and much like most of our interractions over that time, our evening involved Gabriel spinning over in the Kubota and picking up the bride and groom to haul myself (along with AnnaLillian) up to the top of that iconic viewpoint so we could all marinade in the views of the seven sisters, thankfully covered in a light blanket of fog, as the sun dipped behind the horizon. For this go-round, Gabriel showed just how much he had advanced in his veil-floating skills…seriously, he’d win a competition. In these pics, if you see a veil up in the air, dancing, it’s because Gabriel put it there. (and I photoshopped him out ;)).
And of course, that’s just the tip of the Iceberg (or, should I say, Cerro?). Gabriel is powering couples up to the top of these peaks in perfect time for the golden light show, only ever losing one newlywed off the side (I’d still advise you hang on for dear life because, it’s as much fun as a roller coaster). If you’ve ever been to a hoe down at the barn, polka-fest, (speakeasy…shhh), Halloween party, etc…you know, this guy loves a good party, if only to bring great people together…along with some great whiskey ;).
Furthermore, the family doesn’t just host incredible events. They have stewarded the incredible Miossi Ranch property for a century, and it is now part of the Land Conservancy open space. That, right there, is the best party gift, ever.
Much love for everyone mentioned here. To Kiera & Michael, thank you for sharing your love with us. To Gabriel and crew, thank you for doing the same.
It’s not the personal olallieberry pie, cupcakes 🧁, or the meadow wedding ceremony lined with lilies and surrounded by an apple orchard. It’s not the tractor ride that carries you there, past the u-pick flower farm, or the Airstream filled with the aroma of cold brew. It’s not the goats, the cow, the fresh-roasted corn, or even the twelve-foot-long cheese plate complete with cured meat, nuts (the fancy kind), or the local honey. You’d think the poker table where every time you go all in, you’re just contributing further to the Honeymoon Fund would be it…but it’s not. It’s “You”…you are the best thing. *And in this case, the You’s are Miranda & Russell. Celebrated at the Avila Valley Barn ~ truly a family affair <3. The sweetest.

Halfway Point
I’ve just reached the halfway point of another wild, lovely, joy-overflowing wedding season :). The shocking realization? I’m only halfway through.
Fall is coming. Fall — the most stupendous, color-changing, autumn-gold-light time of year. It’s going to be epic… and brutal.
I just did a mid-season refuel on gear, undershirts, socks — the essentials. I even got the oil changed in the car. My body feels good. My hat has seen better days, but it still blocks the sun.
I — I will survive. And weddings? They can’t stop. Won’t stop.
