This past weekend, I had the extreme pleasure of capturing a wedding in Tahoe. A first. Behold, Ryan & Kevin’s Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe Wedding
I would have taken any opportunity to shoot here, for all of its glorious reasons: rivers, lake views, snow-topped mountains, and endless skies that feel almost impossibly big. But Tahoe made me wait.
I’ve been coming here for over forty years.
My family will tell you it’s my happy place—and by association, their happy place too. And after all those years of admiration, anticipation, and quiet hope that I might one day photograph a wedding here, the moment finally arrived with a truly unforgettable Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe Wedding.
And it couldn’t have happened in a more magnificent way than with Ryan and Kevin.
A Riverside First Look Along the Truckee River
Ryan and Kevin are fellow admirers of the outdoors—people who genuinely thrive in wide open landscapes. It felt fitting that their wedding day began immersed in one of Tahoe’s most peaceful natural settings.
Their first look took place along the tranquil banks of the Truckee River, where the sound of flowing water replaced the usual bustle of wedding preparation. It was quiet, emotional, and deeply personal.
After their first look, the two shared private vows beside the river. The towering pines and mountain air created a moment that felt both intimate and expansive.
Moments like this are exactly why a Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe wedding is so special—nature becomes part of the story.
Wedding Party Adventures in the Washeshu Creek Valley
From the river, we ventured into the beautiful Washeshu Creek valley for wedding party portraits.
This landscape offered a stunning mix of towering trees, mountain light, and winding trails that felt made for exploration. Ryan and Kevin’s wedding party fully embraced the adventure—laughing, hiking, and soaking in the scenery.
The entire day felt less like a traditional wedding timeline and more like a shared outdoor experience.
And that spirit carried perfectly into their ceremony.
A Forest Ceremony at Skylandia Park
If you’ve never heard of it, Skylandia Park is one of the North Shore’s hidden gems. Tucked among tall pines and just steps from Lake Tahoe’s shoreline, it provides a serene setting that feels wonderfully secluded.
Their ceremony space sat beneath towering trees, where filtered sunlight danced through the branches overhead.
With the help of Mountain Thyme Events, the design felt effortlessly natural while still elevated and intentional. Lush floral arrangements by Ash + Lily complemented the forest setting beautifully, while elegant linens from Creative Coverings and specialty furniture from Mountain Vibe Rentals created an inviting reception atmosphere.
Every detail worked in harmony with the landscape—one of the defining features of a thoughtfully designed Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe wedding.
Reception Under the Full Moon on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore
As the sun dipped behind the Sierra Nevada mountains, the celebration transitioned into a magical evening reception beneath a glowing full moon.
Guests enjoyed an incredible dinner prepared by As You Wish Catering, followed by a stunning dessert display featuring cakes from Lake Tahoe Cakes.
Meanwhile, the evening’s energy was driven by Music In Tahoe, who kept the celebration lively long after twilight settled across the lake.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the night came when the dance floor transformed into a silent disco—guests wearing headphones as they danced beneath the stars.
From the outside, the forest was completely quiet.
But inside that circle of celebration, the energy was electric.
A Dream Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe Wedding
From start to finish, Ryan and Kevin’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of who they are: adventurous, joyful, and deeply connected to the outdoors.
For me personally, photographing my first Skylandia Park Lake Tahoe wedding after decades of visiting this place felt incredibly meaningful. Tahoe has always been a place of inspiration and peace in my life, and capturing such an important day here made the experience even more special.
The stillness of the late twilight, the laughter echoing through the trees, and the quiet magic of the lake nearby created a wedding day I won’t soon forget.
If it sounds too magnificent, it’s because it truly was.
